{"id":56956,"date":"2021-08-24T07:58:56","date_gmt":"2021-08-24T04:58:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vastuullisuusuutiset.fi\/?p=56956"},"modified":"2021-08-24T15:30:01","modified_gmt":"2021-08-24T12:30:01","slug":"3-81","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vastuullisuusuutiset.fi\/en\/environmental-news-en\/3-81\/","title":{"rendered":"SSAB delivers fossil-free steel"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"smart_content_wrapper\"><p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Swedish steelmaker SSAB has delivered a consignment of the world\u2019s first fossil-free steel \u2013 using 100% fossil-free hydrogen instead of coal and coke. \u2018The first fossil-free steel in the world is not only a breakthrough for SSAB, it represents proof that it\u2019s possible to make the transition and significantly reduce the global carbon footprint of the steel industry,\u2019 says Martin Lindqvist, president and ceo of SSAB. \u2018We hope that this will inspire others to also want to speed up the green transition.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Swedish industry minister Ibrahim Baylan adds: \u2018The work done by SSAB, LKAB and Vattenfall within the framework of Hybrit drives the development of the entire industry and is an international model\u2019. The goal of the partnership is to deliver fossil-free steel to the market and demonstrate the technology on an industrial scale as early as 2026. Using this technology, SSAB believes it has the potential to reduce Sweden\u2019s total carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 10% and Finland\u2019s by approximately 7%.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We\u2019ll be converting to electric arc furnace in Oxel\u00f6sund as early as 2025,\u2019 says Johnny Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m, head of SSAB special steels division. \u2018This is the first production site within SSAB to make the transition and it means that we\u2019ll already be cutting large amounts of carbon dioxide emissions then.
