We therefore call on our partners, including brand owners, retailers, consumers, packaging recovery organizations, recyclers and others, to work with us to further improve the collection of cans, as part of a joint mission to fully close the loop and move from the current recycling rate of 76.1 percent to a real recycling rate of 100 percent in 2030.”

The two associations held an online webinar they say was attended by some 200 stakeholders in the aluminum can supply chain. Oliver Graham, chair of the Beverage Can Commission at Metal Packaging Europe, said at the event, “The aluminum beverage can is well suited for ‘real circularity’. With this in mind, achieving a 100 percent recycling rate for beverage cans by 2030 is a realistic aim, based on maximizing the circular potential of the aluminum beverage can.”

Kestutis Sadauskas, director for circular economy and green growth at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Environment, remarked, “The Commission acknowledges the importance of aluminum as a resource towards a circular and low-carbon economy. We must also play our part and the Recovery and Resilience Facility [a $790 million EC fund] will provide large-scale financial support to investments.”

Source: Recycling Today

Two Brussels-based trade groups say thorough aluminum can recycling process is achievable. European Aluminium and Metal Packaging Europe, two Brussels-based trade associations, have launched what they…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[5594
89,4267,398,12374
post-44176","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-chief-editors-choice","tag-europe","tag-rate","tag-recycling","tag-ubc","wpcat-5594-id
https://i0.wp.com/vastuullisuusuutiset.fi/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/alumiini_pixabay.jpg?fit=100%2C100&ssl=1
["GET
